Nationwide Conestoga Freight Services

I’m Bryan Ellis, the freight broker behind The Freight Fella. I coordinate Conestoga transportation for manufacturers, distributors, and industrial shippers who need weather protection with convenient loading access. Work directly with me for shipment planning and updates. All freight is brokered through King of Freight.

What Is a Conestoga Trailer?

A Conestoga trailer uses a retractable tarp system mounted over an open-deck trailer. The rolling curtain system opens for loading and unloading, then closes around the freight to protect it from weather and road spray. In most cases, this avoids laying conventional tarps directly on the cargo. A Conestoga is not a temperature-controlled trailer and does not provide refrigerated service.

Freight Suited to Conestoga Transportation

Conestoga trailers are often used for machinery, fabricated metal products, industrial components, and building materials that require both protection and side or overhead loading. Suitability depends on the shipment’s dimensions, weight, packaging, and handling requirements. Every load is reviewed individually to confirm that a Conestoga is appropriate before booking.

Flatbed Conestoga Options

Conestoga systems can be mounted on both flatbed and step deck trailers. Usable interior clearance, deck height, and weight capacity vary by trailer and manufacturer. Because of this, freight dimensions and weight must be checked against the specific equipment before a load is confirmed.

Step Deck Conestoga Options

I do not promise standard dimensions or guaranteed fit—each shipment is matched to equipment based on its exact specifications. During planning, we review technical requirements so the correct trailer is requested for your protected open-deck freight.

Plan Protection and Loading Requirements

Accurate shipping dimensions, loading equipment, securement access, and packaging all affect whether a Conestoga is the right choice. Some shipments may require additional protection beyond what the retractable system provides. During planning, we review how the freight will be loaded and unloaded, where securement points are located, and what level of weather protection is required so the correct trailer is requested.

Securement Access

The rolling curtain system provides clear access to the entire deck from the sides and top. However, we must verify that your specific machinery or products have accessible securement points that meet DOT safety standards without requiring unconventional strap or chain angles that could damage the tarp system.

Weather Protection Level

Retractable systems provide high protection against precipitation and road spray. However, for extremely high-precision industrial components, we determine if the standard curtain is sufficient or if the cargo requires secondary moisture-proof internal packaging to prevent condensation during nationwide transit.
